Tips in traveling to the Country side of England
We flew out of Orlando, direct flight to Gatwick airport in London and then a train ride to County Dorset, one of the most beautiful places.
If you are looking for peace and quiet, classic houses, all things historical, aromatic gardens then this is the place for you.
Our friends live in Weymouth, in County Dorset, a coastal town just like St. Augustine but a lot older, where we were invited to stay in their home as guests., which gives you the real flavor of another country.
We would ride through the country side and stumble into the most ancient villages all with thatched roofs and the age of these town is mind boggling.
As we travelled, we would come upon ancient castles, hundreds of years old.
Riding along on the Juriastic coastline, where prehistoric animals have been discovered.
Stopping at a classic Pub was an awakening of all your senses. Beautifully appointed style with wood paneling, rich painted colors, ancient tiled or wood floors all with such an aged patina. The Pubs were welcoming for your whole family. This is where people would congregate on a Sunday for a “SUNDAY ROAST” which consisted of to die for beef roast, roasted Brussels sprouts, green beans, mashed potatoes (mash), English peas (mush) carrots, scrumptious gravy heavily flowing over Yorkshire pudding. Absolutely heaven. My family would have this meal in the South for Sunday dinner, which was the noonday meal.
You have not visited England without having tea. You could have a full tea, or just a cream tea with scones and jam and Devonshire cream.
The garden nurseries were magnificent. Complete showcasing of outdoor furniture, garden art, incredible flowers and shrubs, of course a tea Room. While you take in the floura and fauna, you stop into the tea room on the grounds and have a delightful cup of tea. All so refined.
Thrift stores are everywhere. This is where I find memorable treasures as reminders of my travels. So much better than a souvenir shop.
